“Fight Like Mike”

Sylvan Lake & SLHC Rally Around ‘Fight Like Mike’:

One Week Free Tuition plus Accomodation Draw

Once again anchored by a strong ‘hockey community’, true human spirit is coming through in Sylvan Lake Hockeyville. Only this story is real life with all its trials and tribulations.

On January 7th, Michael Arthur, 10 years old and captain of the Sylvan Lake Atom AA Lakers, was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML). Teammates and parents immediately took up the challenge and started the “Fight like Mike” Campaign to show their support and ensure there was no financial burden on the family as they battle together through the months of treatment that lie ahead.

Similar to this time last year, the community followed the teams lead and support has exploded – not only within Sylvan Lake, but many in the surrounding area. Opponents regularly hold tributes prior to games and come through with donations of their own. As well, virtually every team in Sylvan Lake Minor Hockey has planned, or is planning, events or contributions of their own: touques, ribbons, wrist bracelets, hockey tape and laces. One thing is for certain, ‘Orange’ is the color of choice. Michael’s team even shaved their heads, or died their hair orange, to support their Captain. To contribute to this heartwarming effort go to the ‘Fight with Mike’ Medical Fundraising page www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/fight-like-mike/290393#.VLR7DQIW5Qt.facebook  or follow all the support on the ‘Fight Light Mike’ Facebook Page www.facebook.com/groups/fightlikemike/
